November-December 2020 Music Letter
Here's our latest update.
A note from Miss Smith: "I am extremely eager and ready to get back into the classroom with students and guide them in continuing to learn more about music. No matter what this school year looks like, I hope that it will be integral in fostering and developing all students' appreciation for music in various forms. Let's make 2020-2021 an outstanding year in the music department at Chisago Christian School!"
Elementary General Music K-5 music classes will still take place - there is so much that can be learned in music, even with physical distancing! Students will be appropriately spaced around the music room, instruments will be cleaned between uses, and singing will be done in a safe manner. We are also very excited to have NINE brand new Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, etc.) to use in elementary classes!
Elementary Bands and Secondary Bands Band classes will take place as usual, with students adequately spaced out. No stands will be shared between students, and all students will have plenty of space to play their instrument safely out of the range of others. We will review some material from last spring and progress forward to learn new pieces and techniques. In Secondary Band specifically, I plant to focus partially on small ensemble/chamber music so that students can play in smaller groups for some pieces. This will foster musical independence and musical listening/awareness.
Junior High and High School Choirs Small class sizes and a large classroom will allow for singing to take place. While concerts and performances might look different this year, students will still be held to a high standard in preparing songs as an ensemble. Other learning will take place as well, including music theory, music history, and music composition.
A Note on Beginning Band (4th grade): As we were unable to make instrument selections in the spring, we will be doing so during Quarter 1 for students who would like to start learning and instrument. Parents of 4th graders, watch your emails for upcoming information!
